Alex Kertzner, C.Phil

Alex is a Ph.D. candidate in the History Department at UCLA and an M.D. Candidate at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His research focuses on how social determinants of health affect access to medical technologies among low-income persons with disabilities. In addition, he has been a graduate student researcher at the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research, where he worked on the Low Income Health Program Transition for California’s Department of Health Care Services. He earned his B.A., M.A., and C.Phil. from UCLA and is currently working under the supervision of Dr. Braslow on his dissertation on the history of poliomyelitis in Los Angeles County.

History of chronic disease management in the United States, Disability Studies, and Contemporary United States health policy with a focus on issues involving safety-net populations.
